Odin Dispenses Godly Wisdom In This New Thor Photo

Not to be outdone by Warner Bros. and their new DC Comics based Green Lantern franchise, Marvel has a new photo from Thor floating around out in the ether. It was first picked up by a reader on Superherohype. The image shows Anthony Hopkins as Odin imparting godly wisdom to Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Or maybe he’s about to kick him in the nuts. It’s kind of hard to tell.

Now that Iron Man 2 is out of the way Thor is the next movie in the Marvel menagerie, one of the steps on the road leading up to their big Avengers team-up. It’s about a disabled medical student who transforms into the God of Thunder. Totally plausible. I know a guy that really happened to. For more images and info on Thor, check out our dedicated Thor coverage channel right here. Otherwise, here’s the new image:

First Look At Ryan Reynolds In The Green Lantern Costume

To kick off all the comic-fueled frenzy of next week's Comic Con, Entertainment Weekly is bringing us something pretty huge-- the first image of Ryan Reynolds
in costume as the Green Lantern. He's the cover boy for this week's Comic Con preview article, which promises all kinds of other exclusives for geek-friendly projects coming up. The rest of the issue hasn't gone online yet, but as you can see, Reynolds and his Ring of Power are available for all to see.

This image is particularly tantalizing since, as you may remember, the Green Lantern's suit is being captured almost entirely in CGI, so even set photos have told us nothing. So what do we think of the final product? Reynolds looks great, of course, though the lines on the suit kind of remind me of those human body models with all the muscles defined-- yes, it emphasizes his famous peeks and abs, but also seems a little creepy. But otherwise everything looks good, and those lines may have some special function I don't know about, so I'm willing to accept it for now.

Click the cover image below for a high-res version and keep checking back for more awesome stuff as the pre-Comic Con excitement ramps up.

Ashley Greene: ESPY Awards Dazzler

Always up for a fun-filled night, Ashley Greene attended the annual ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday night (July 14).

The Alice Cullen actress looked super hot in a fire engine red dress while gladly posing for pictures and chatting with press before heading inside the Nokia Theatre.

The awards show, which was hosted by Mike Myers, honored superstar athletes and reflected back on the most memorable moments from the past year.

Some of this year’s nominees included LeBron James for Best Athlete, Jimmie Johnson for Best Driver and soccer stud, Landon Donovan, for Best Moment and the Performance Under Pressure Award.

Improv Everywhere Ambushes NYC Subway Star Wars Style

On the New York City subway I’ve been subjected to mobile mariachi bands, homeless men’s speeches for cash, bootleg DVD sales and even a failed attempt at pole dancing, but never something as awesome as a Star Wars invasion. For a lucky few riders, their $2.25 was worth way more than a ride from one street in Manhattan to another; they got to be part of an Improv Everywhere ambush.

This is the group responsible for shocking bystanders with out of the ordinary behavior. They shocked commuters during a mass pause in Frozen Grand Central, surprised shoppers with a performance in Food Court Musical and now they’ve treated a car-full of subway riders to some Star Wars role-play.

The reactions are absolutely hilarious. What starts out as just one guy giving the lady dressed as Princess Leia an odd look turns into a mass of riders trying to capture the action with cameras and cell phones. Good day or bad, you don’t normally catch subway riders with gigantic smiles on their faces. I would have paid double the fare to have such an awesome experience on the 6.

Elizabeth Banks Is Doing A Tinkerbell Rom-Com

Elizabeth Banks is better than this. A lot better than this. Variety says she’s set to star in a live-action rom-com called Tink in which she’ll play Tink. Yeah, that Tink. Peter Pan’s Tink.

Exactly what it’s about remains to be seen, all we know is that it “plays on the mischievious nature of the Tinkerbell character.” That could mean almost anything from Tink playing some sort of cupid to her actually growing herself bigger and trying to woo human males in the real world. Neither option sounds particularly appealing.

Let me make it even less appealing. McG is behind it. McG who only makes terrible movies. That McG. No word on if he’s actually directing it, but he along with Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are being blamed for it.

Banks did have a hand in developing the project, and since she’s brilliant, that’s a good sign. If not for McG’s involvement I might have some hope that this could be a sort of riff on the very fun Enchanted formula, except of course Enchanted already did that and do we really need to see that same story again? Adding fairy wings to the fish out of water princess doesn’t really make it new again. Mostly though, I’m afraid this will turn into Tooth Fairy, and I don’t think I’ll make it if I have to sit through that again.

Leonar3Do gets artsy in 3D space

I’m not certain if HDTV companies
are just shoving this down our throats, but 3D apparently is supposed to be huge. If it isn’t now, then it will be soon. I suppose there will be great demand for those who need to sculpt virtual creations in 3D, and this is where Leonar3Do comes in.

Granted, I do not know how to pronounce it, but Leonar3Do allows the user to make a 3D object on their screen, view it in 3D, and all sorts of other features. The user will have to wear the special goggles, and use the “bird”, an air-suspended mouse. I have a video of it after the jump so you can see it in action.

According to the software developers Daniel Ratai and Zoltan Karpati: “it’s so user-friendly, an 8-year old can do it”. Okay, that isn’t a direct quote, but I was trying to imitate those Geico “Caveman” ads. I once dabbled in 3D graphics, and I found it pretty difficult. I’m sure I probably could have done better at it if I had the software and a faster computer.

As for this software, it works with Windows XP SP3, Windows Visa, and Windows 7. It is coming soon for Mac and Linux platforms, and will support 3D file formats like .obj, stl, .3ds, and others. The package is pretty expensive at $1,000.

Garrett Hedlund Shows Off His Big Disk In This Tron: Legacy Banner

With Inception hitting theaters tomorrow at midnight, the coveted position of “most anticipated upcoming film” will be up for grabs. There are a few contenders left this year vying for the position, Harry Potter, Scott Pilgrim, Piranha 3D, just to name a few, but for most of us who grew up on early Disney
adventures, our most boner-inspiring film of the last half of 2010 is definitely Tron: Legacy.

Production has been trudging along for what feels like an unreasonably long time, but Disney has kept us interested by continually releasing images from the film that send the 8-year-old inside of all of us into uncontrollable fits of “OMG THAT’S AWESOME!!”, Continuing the pattern is the newest banner released over at IGN. Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund crouches in anticipation as he prepares to huck his glowing light disk at some unfortunate program who is surely going to get messed up by it. Too rad.

The film is still five months from release but with a heavy presence at SDCC next week we can be sure to expect A LOT of new information and clips coming our way very very soon. Here’s the image to sate your nerd lust.

Tim Allen Still Contracted For A Fourth Toy Story Movie

Nobody who walked out of Toy Story 3 thought to themselves, "Man, I can't wait for Toy Story 4." The film was a fantastic conclusion to a terrific series - just don't tell that to Tim Allen.

The Wrap is reporting that Allen is still under contract for a fourth Toy Story film, citing "individuals familiar with the Home Improvement actor's contract." It should be noted, however, that just because he is under contract doesn't mean that the film will ever be made. Speaking with a Disney spokesperson about the possibility of making the trilogy into a quadrilogy, the website got an expected response:

“We are thrilled with the audiences response to Toy Story 3, and fans will be seeing more of the Toy Story characters in a short film next year. At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding another full-length feature.”

It isn't too uncommon an occurrence for an actor to have a contract that extends beyond what the studio intends to produce, but let's think about this for a second: would we really hate to see another Toy Story movie go into production? If we were talking about any other studio the idea of a sequel would be abhorred, but Pixar is the home of some of the greatest minds in the history of filmmaking. I can say with absolute certainty that if Toy Story 4 were to be put into production tomorrow because John Lasseter and crew had developed a great idea, then I would support it.

Green Lantern To Grace Next Week's Cover Of Entertainment Weekly

The San Diego Comic Con has become the outlet for studios to promote their most popular films. It is there that all of your favorite superheroes, science-fiction franchises and action films show off what they have to as many geeks as can fit in Hall H. This year, one of those said projects will be Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, the next big superhero franchise from the folks over at Warner Bros. and DC Comics. What we've seen from the film has been tremendously limited up to this point, the closest we've gotten to seeing Ryan Reynolds in costume is this (albeit it's a good a picture as we are going to get considering that the suit will be digitally rendered. So with Green Lantern set to have it's panel next Saturday, that's when we will get our first look, right? Nope.

Comic Book Movie reports that Entertainment Weekly Managing Editor Jess Cagle recently made a radio station visit where she revealed that next week Ryan Reynolds in full Green Lantern garb will grace the cover of the magazine. The subject was brought up while discussing the recently released Mel Gibson tapes, which will be bumped in favor of our favorite green superhero.

Very democratic of Warner Bros., if I do say so myself. But for those planning on attending the convention that are upset they won't be getting an exclusive first picture, perhaps they will make up for it in other ways.

In related news, Leighton recently confessed to being a text addict, having learned to send text messages very quickly during her workdays.

Lauren Conrad: "The Hills" Had a Great Run

She’s been off doing her own thing, including writing bestsellers and designing killer clothing lines, but Lauren Conrad hasn’t forgotten her roots.

And during last night’s series finale of “The Hills,” LC dropped by to talk about the MTV reality show and her experience as a core character.

Lauren explained, “Well, I didn't know I would be invited, because I had already left! I wasn't sure I was going to go. I came for [show creator] Adam DiVello. I couldn't tell him no! I kind of got the sad part out of the way. It's like getting to see old friends. It's like a reunion for me."

Of the show’s ending, Conrad noted, "I think it's sad, but I think they had a great run. They went on for so long. I think it's nice they wrapped up everyone's story. It was a happy ending."

"I didn't watch this season. For me, my last episode was the last episode. I left and I loved where it ended. They went on and did a new season. I kind of liked my ending."

Hard at work in New York City, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester paired up for "Gossip Girl" filming duties on Wednesday afternoon (July 14).

The Serena Van der Woodsen actress and her Blair Waldorf co-star seemed to be getting along quite well, which comes contrary to reports that the pair have been feuding.

Of the supposed bickering babes, an insider told Us magazine that Blake and Leighton have “been fighting since last season."

The Us insider continued to erroneously tell, “Their rivalry stems from Leighton feeling left out of wardrobe decisions.”

Saying that this just isn't the case, a close friend of both Leighton and Blake tells Gossip Cop, “There is no truth" to the report, adding that the CW co-stars get along just fine.

Ryan Reynolds Lands On the Injured List

One inside source told press, “Ryan is in lots of pain. He’s been keeping ice on it.” There’s no word on how long he’ll be benched.

Reynolds worked extra hard to get the gig on “The Green Lantern,” as he was up against Jared Leto and Bradley Cooper.
