The emotions-loaded drama is set for October 1st release in limited theatres across the country. Kristen Stewart’s work in the movie is praised and described as nothing less than “electrical”.
In Welcome To The Rileys Kristen Stewart plays Mallory, a young prostitute, a rebellious teen who has to provide for herself after running away from home.
Living in New Orleans Mallory meets Doug Riley (James Gandolfini). He and his wife (Melissa Leo), try to help her while she, in return, unites the grieving couple who has drifted apart after the death of their teenage daughter.
I've been pretty hard on Kristen Stewart in the past, and I still think the Twilight movies would be better off without her, but I'll give her this credit: she's not afraid to make weird, off-the-grid movies because she feels like it. At this year's Sundance Film Festival alone she had two films, the coming-of-age rock and roll story The Runaways and the family drama Welcome to the Rileys, in which she plays a teenage runaway stripper who connects with a troubled family man played by James Gandolfini.
Yes, it's a story that has "niche Sundance" written all over it, and it's not a huge surprise that Rileys hasn't been released yet-- even with stars of that caliber, it's a tough sell without rave reviews to back it up, and Rileys met only mild support back in January. But with the November 5 release date coming up the film's first trailer has debuted at Yahoo! Movies, and you can also watch it embedded below. The marital strife between Gandolfini and Melissa Leo's character seems pretty standard issue-- they lost a child! they don't connect anymore!-- but Stewart's character definitely seems to throw in a curveball. She doesn't carry much weight in the trailer but I'm willing to hold out hope she can break out of her disaffected lonely girl rut in this one and actually show us something new. Check it all out below and let us know what you think.
